Sources: Man City well placed to land record-breaking £80m payout
Man City are hopeful that the Etihad Stadium’s expansion will increase matchday revenues to over £80million per season, Football Insider understands.
The Premier League giants submitted a planning application for stadium expansion in April.
City’s plans included the construction of a new leisure and entertainment zone for fans at the stadium, as well as an expansion to the venue’s North Stand.
A new upper tier will be built on the North Stand, increasing total capacity by around 7,000 to a total of 61,000.
The expansion also includes new hospitality and commercial areas within the stadium, including a sky bar, stadium roof walk experience and a new club shop.
The project is expected to cost City over £300million and will take up to three years to complete.
Football Insider sources understand that City are ‘hopeful’ that the expansion will inflate their matchday revenues to over £80million.
City posted matchday income of £64million in their latest 2021/22 accounts, while their highest matchday income in the past decade was reported at £70.2million in 2015/16.
Finance expert Kieran Maguire recently told Football Insider that it is ‘critical’ for City to improve revenues with the club currently generating just £55million from ticket sales.
Premier League clubs have put extra importance on revenue growth following the introduction of Uefa’s new financial sustainability regulations, which are set to cap spending to a percentage of club income.
Wages, transfers, and agent fees will eventually be capped at 70 per cent of club revenue by the 2025/26 season.
