Newcastle United are weighing up a swoop for in-form Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed the Magpies have identified the 27-year-old as an attainable target ahead of the January transfer window.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Guirassy "ticks a lot of boxes" for Newcastle - with the striker's £15million release clause making him an affordable option.

The interest in the Guinea international comes amid an injury crisis which has decimated the St James' Park club.

It is believed there are a lot more striker options on the table as the new year approaches.

Guirassy has been in inspired form in the 2023-24 campaign so far, scoring 16 goals in 10 appearances for Stuttgart this season.

Only Bayern Munich star Harry Kane (17 goals) has managed more strikes in the Bundesliga.

Guirassy, 27, who was coveted by Premier League sides during his time in France, is under contract until June 2026.

The forward, who has scored twice in eight appearances for Guinea, is expected to go to the African Cup of Nations with his country in the new year.

Newcastle

Newcastle are currently without striker duo Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson - and were forced to start Anthony Gordon up front in last week's loss against Bournemouth.

The Magpies, who are seventh in the Premier League, are also without Miguel Almiron, Harvey Barnes, Javier Manquillo, Matt Targett, Sven Botman, Elliot Anderson, Jacob Murphy and Dan Burn through injury.
