Newcastle United have submitted a £20m bid for Watford striker Joao Pedro, sources from the club have told Football Insider.

The north-east giants have made a move for the 20-year-old as they look to recruit a centre-forward by the transfer cut-off.

Newcastle regard Pedro as a top talent with the potential to be a Premier League sensation.

Pedro joined Watford from Brazilian club Fluminense in the summer of 2020 and has three more years on his contract.

He scored three times and provided an assist in 28 top-flight games, including 15 starts, for the Hornets last season as they were relegated.

The Magpies are in the market for attacking reinforcements before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

They have already bolstered their defence with the signings of Nick Pope and Sven Botman while Matt Targett's loan move has been converted into a permanent deal.

Callum Wilson and Chris Wood are currently the club's only senior strikers.

Wood moved to St. James' Park in January but has only scored twice in 18 appearances for the club.

The injury-prone Wilson is much more prolific but has featured in less than half of Newcastle's Premier League games since he arrived from Bournemouth in the summer of 2020.

Pedro, who turns 21 next month, has shown his potential in the Championship for Watford.

He scored 10 times in 41 games in 2020-21 as they won promotion to the Premier League.

Newcastle are next in action on Sunday (21 August) when they host Premier League champions Man City.
