Cameron Scott has rejected a professional contract from Rangers, sources have told Football Insider.

The defender, 16, has been offered a three-year pro deal by the Glasgow giants as they look to tie him down for the long term.

However, the Scotland Under-16 international has rejected Rangers' opening offer as he wants to explore his options.

Rangers

Rangers value Scott highly and do not want to lose a talent they consider one of the best in their academy.

Scott has grown to become an influential part of the Rangers academy, having joined the club as a youngster.

Currently representing the Under-17s, manager Michael Beale views him as a player with the potential to play in the first team.

Beale has been impressive in Glasgow since replacing Giovanni van Bronckhorst and he has openly spoken about his desire to add more youth to what is an ageing Gers squad.

Ahead of Rangers' clash with St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup, Beale said: "I am going to change players in this squad over time - I'm going to change the look of Rangers to move forward.

"We are going to re-energise us with young players coming in and we've got a lot of uncertainty surrounding some of our players."

Another academy star in Beale's sights is Jack Wylie, who is eligible to sign professional terms having just turned 16 years old.
