Stefan Borson drops £100m verdict after 'huge' Aston Villa deal finalised

Aston Villa are looking to strengthen their attacking options in the January transfer window following their strong first half of the season. 

Villa are currently on course to qualify for the Champions League, with Unai Emery’s side sitting third in the Premier League table. 

Roma striker Tammy Abraham has emerged as a potential option, having previously spent a season on loan at Villa Park in the 2018-19 campaign.

Meanwhile, Villa have secured the signing of Brian Madjo after agreeing a deal with French side Metz. 

Fabrizio Romano reported on 8 January the deal for the England youth international, who turned 17 on Monday (12 January), is worth around £10.4million. 

How Aston Villa's Brian Madjo deal could be structured

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider it’s worth spending £10m on a player if you can find the next £100m star. 

Madjo spent three years with Metz, where he made his senior debut for the Ligue 1 side in August. 

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “There are loads of these deals that happen where you forget about them and they actually rarely turn into top players. 

“But there are options, and we don't know what the deal looks like. Is it really £10m headline? Is it a £10m kind of down payment or is it £10m if he plays 50 first-team games? It could easily be like that.

“It's a huge deal, but there are loads of these deals for these young players, and it's a very competitive market. If you can find the next £100m player, then of course, you're going to happily pay £10m.” 

Madjo has made three appearances for Luxembourg’s national team, while he’s also featured for England Under-17s. 

Aston Villa ready to offload senior star after deal agreed

Villa are keen to continue strengthening in the January window, but they are restrained by their financial situation. 

That means exits are likely to be on the cards in order to bring further additions through the door.

Donyell Malen looks set to seal a move away from Villa despite making important contributions at Villa Park this season. 

Roma have agreed to sign the Netherlands international on loan until the end of the season, with a £21.7m obligation-to-buy clause included in the deal.
