Wolves have emerged as Liverpool's shock rivals in the race for Benfica forward Anderson Talisca, according to a report.

Talisca had been all set to sign for Liverpool after the FA received a work permit application for the 22-year-old.

But work permit difficulties have held up the deal and Wolves have been given hope that they can sensationally beat the Premier League giants to the signing of the £21million-rated starlet.

The Sun claim that Chinese billionaire Robin Li is poised to buy Wolves for £40million, a deal which is being brokered by super agent Jorge Mendes, whose clients include Talisca as well as more celebrated names such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho.

It is said that it would be easier for Talisca to be granted a work permit in the Championship and that Wolves are hoping to take advantage of the red tape issues.

The Midlands club are hoping that a cash boost from Li, who is trying to take over the club from current owner Steve Morgan, would propel the club back into the Premier League.

Portuguese outlet O Jogo have claimed that Talisca has told his closest friends he is close to moving to Liverpool, but is anxious about making the step-up to the Premier League, as he waits for the deal to be processed.

Klopp is keen to bring Talisca to Anfield, who can also play as a secondary striker, in the number 10 role and even as a central midfielder.

He has scored 20 goals in 78 Benfica appearances, occupying primarily a deeper role for the Portuguese giants. The 22-year-old was integral to Benfica's campaign last-term as they lifted the Primeira Liga trophy.

The Brazil Under-23 international moved to Benfica in 2014 for £3.4million from Brazilian side Bahia, and has experience in the Champions League.

Klopp is looking to add more firepower to his side, and has also been linked with the likes of PSG's Lucas Moura and Mario Gotze after deciding to listen to offers for Jordan Ibe.
