Alan Hutton has tipped Tottenham to sell Harry Winks in a bid to build transfer funds this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs defender suggested the 25-year-old should consider leaving for the good of his career.

Harry Winks playing for Tottenham

Speaking to Sky back in November, Winks admitted he found himself in a "difficult situation" at Spurs after a lack of game time.

Hutton suggested the "fantastic" England international would be best off leaving Spurs.

He admitted the Lilywhites may be happier with the money than keeping him on board.

Hutton told Football Insider's Russell Edge: "I think he’s a top player to be honest with you.

"He keeps the ball moving a little bit like Billy Gilmour. He can continuously pass the ball. It’s just not really worked for him these past couple of seasons at Tottenham.

"He’s of an age now where he has to be playing football. He’s too good not to play and just sit there and not be in the squad.

"£30million is a lot of money in these circumstances.

"If Tottenham can get £30 million for their so-called fringe players, then I think they will be more than happy. They’d want to reinvest that in the squad."

Despite the club's struggles last season, Winks remained a bit-part player under Jose Mourinho.

However, he did start the last 3 league games under interim manager and former teammate Ryan Mason.

The academy graduate has a total of 173 appearances under his belt for the first team.
