Liverpool are not close to making a breakthrough in their talks over a new contract with Trent Alexander-Arnold, sources have told Football Insider.

The England international wants to remain at Anfield and the Reds are keen to tie him down to a long-term deal given his status as one of the club's star players.

Sources say talks have been ongoing between the two parties since last autumn as they look to reach an agreement before the 25-year-old’s deal expires in June 2025.

But a deal is not done yet, and there is believed to be no announcement imminent, with the club still having some work to do to ensure the right-back’s long-term future remains on Merseyside.

Alexander-Arnold talks continue as Liverpool look to agree deal

Alexander-Arnold has been one of the outstanding players at Liverpool ever since breaking into the side in his teens and he was promoted to vice-captain last season following the departures of Jordan Henderson and James Milner.

The right-back recorded another strong campaign at Anfield, having registered three goals and nine assists in 37 appearances as his side fell short in their title bid.

Alexander-Arnold continued that form when he scored the second goal for England in their 3-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina on 3 June as he looks to show Gareth Southgate why he can be a key figure for his side at this summer's European Championships.

Liverpool are keen to reach an agreement over a new deal before he could potentially leave the club on a free transfer in July 2025.

There have been reports suggesting Spanish giants Real Madrid are keeping an eye on the Englishman’s situation as they ponder a potential move to sign him.

The defender will be playing under a new manager next season after Arne Slot has been named as Jurgen Klopp’s successor on Merseyside.
