Michael Brown believes Jose Mourinho will have been disappointed not to sign a proven centre-back as Tottenham their sights on Swansea City star Joe Rodon.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Spurs midfielder suggests the Lilywhites would have wanted an experienced defender through the door before Monday's international transfer deadline.

Brown has touted Rodon as a "typical Spurs signing" but suggests Mourinho will have wanted more experience through the door.

Brown told Football Insider: "I think defensively they wanted to strengthen in there but attacking-wise, I think it's very exciting with all the signings coming in.

"A centre-back would have been some sort of disappointment. I think anybody can be moulded by Jose Mourinho, he's got that special talent that we've seen. He says he's the special one, as we know.

"He's a very experienced manager, someone you'd want to play for and it's a typical sort of Spurs signing, isn't it?"

Rodon broke into the senior Swansea side in south Wales back in 2018 and has gone on to make 54 appearances for the club.

He has been an ever-present for the Swans this season, while he also picked up his fourth cap for Wales in the 3-0 defeat to England.
