Five senior Tottenham players could quit the club this summer in a mass exodus of talent, according to a report.

The Independent claim Mousa Dembele, Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose, Fernando Llorente and Erik Lamela are all in line to head out of the exit door at the end of the season.

It is said that Spurs are likely to be forced into the transfer market to replace the big-name stars in a gradual break-up of the vibrant and youthful side that has made such progress under Mauricio Pochettino.

The Independent report that midfield kingpin Dembele is expected to leave the club at the end of the season, when he will have just 12 months remaining on his contract.

Centre-back Alderweireld, left-back Rose and centre-forward Llorente are all facing potential departures, while attacking midfielder Lamela is entering the final 12 months of his contract.

Football Insider verdict:

Of the star quintet, Dembele has been the most important player this season and is virtually irreplaceable due to his combination of power and technical brilliance in the midfield battleground. But Alderweireld and Rose would also be nailed-on starters in Pochettino's strongest-possible XI were they fit and firing, while Lamela would probably be the 12th man. Llorente is expendable, but the task of replacing the others is a monumental one and the start of the break-up of such a vibrant and youthful side will worry Spurs fans immensely ahead of the summer window. Were the club more ambitious and invested more in playing talent, they would have no worries hanging on to Alderweireld and Rose, and probably Dembele, too.
