Wes Foderingham has revealed how he tricked a Rangers fan into thinking he was Manchester City's Gael Clichy.

The Premier League ace is available for free as his Etihad contract expires within a matter of weeks and Foderingham apparently fooled one of his own supporters into believing he was Clichy and on his way to Glasgow to sign for Pedro Caixinha's men.

The Gers fan in question must have believed there was a resemblance between the two players and Foderingham, 26, took to Twitter to share the bizarre situation he found himself in.

"On a plane back to Glasgow and a guy asks me if I'm Gael Clichy. I told him 'yeah I'm on my way to sign for Rangers'. He was buzzing," said the Gers goalkeeper on his personal Twitter account on Friday.

Caixinha has already begun to make progress in what is bound to be a busy summer for the Light Blues and signing up a player of Clichy's quality would cause a significant buzz in Glasgow.

The 31-year-old has three Premier League titles to his name from his time at Arsenal and Man City and also boasts 18 international caps for France.

He has been a part of Pep Guardiola's plans this season but it seems that his days at the Etihad are now numbered.

Foderingham played in all but one of Rangers' Scottish Premiership matches this season, keeping 12 clean sheets in 37 league appearances.

The shot-stopper moved to Ibrox in 2015 from English side Swindon and helped them win the Championship title last season.
