Following yet another defeat for Leeds United at Elland Road on Wednesday night in the Championship, Adam Forshaw has urged his teammates to do better and prove they are worthy of the shirt.

The former Everton midfielder has been one of only a few consistent performers for the Whites in a campaign that despite starting brightly has gone downhill with speed.

Accumulating in the sacking of Thomas Christiansen in February, things have seemingly gotten no better under Paul Heckingbottom in terms of results.

The latest, against Wolves on Wednesday night, was by and large a complete no-show from the players, who offered little going forward and rolled over for the league’s table-toppers.

All apart from Forshaw, who at least made some attempt to put on a fight in the centre of the park.

Reflecting after the game the midfielder said, as quoted on Leeds United official Twitter page: “We are playing for #LUFC and we really need to step up and be counted and prove that we deserve to be here.”

And it was these words which were jumped upon by the Whites faithful who sang the player’s praises and urged the club to make the Liverpudlian born ace the captain.

Here is a selection of Twitter responses to the player:
