Celtic look set to make a midfield signing soon, and a name on the club’s shortlist is apparently Hibernian’s John McGinn.
The Scottish Sun reports that the Hoops are interested in signing the 23-year-old Scottish international, who has reportedly made the list of players that Brendan Rodgers wants to buy in the summer.
Hibernian will no doubt want at least £2million for McGinn, which is far too much money for a player with one year left on his contract.
If Rodgers really does have a list, then another Scottish midfielder should be on it – Hearts’ teenage prodigy Harry Cochrane.
The 17-year-old is already an established first-team player, and he had the guts to take on Scott Brown – and best him – in the Edinburgh side’s 4-0 win over the Hoops in December.
Brown considered Cochrane so much of a threat that he caught him with a poor challenge in the next match between the sides, which put Cochrane out of action for a few weeks.
Working with Brown and the likes of Olivier Ntcham and Callum McGregor would take Cochrane’s game to a new level, and he has the potential to get better and better as he gets older.
A move for this player seems to make more sense than spending millions on an overpaid player who will be expected to be shoehorned into the team right away.
That doesn’t need to happen with Cochrane, who can be gradually introduced into the team on a regular basis.
