Chelsea have made a move to bring Robin van Persie back to the Premier League, according to a report in the Express.

Van Persie, 32, has had a mixed season at Fenerbahce, who he joined from Manchester United last summer.

Chelsea will complete a loan deal for Corinthians striker Alexandre Pato on Wednesday but they will assess him closely before deciding whether to make the transfer permanent.

With Radamel Falcao due to return to parent club Monaco at the end of the season and doubts over the future of Loic Remy, Chelsea are still in the market for a striker to back up undisputed first choice Diego Costa.

According to the Express, Chelsea made a surprise enquiry for Van Perise last week as they assess the possibility of a short-term deal.

The Dutchman, who turns 33 in August, has scored a creditable 12 goals in 28 matches for Turkish side Fenerbahce this season but he has started only one league match since November.
