Club reveal definitive reason new Rangers arrival was offloaded - confirm future fees

Norwich City have revealed Scotland Under-19 winger Glenn Middleton has joined Rangers on a free transfer but have an “additional sell-on clause related to his future development”
The 18-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half year contract with the Ibrox giants and has joined the club’s Under-20’s squad, as confirmed by the Gers’ Academy Twitter account.
Despite joining the Academy side, Norwich youth chief Steve Weaver revealed the winger “expressed a desire” to play first-team football when the opportunity to go to Ibrox was presented.
“Glenn expressed a desire to play first team football,” Weaver said, as quoted by the Canaries official website, confirming Middleton’s move to Ibrox.
“This hasn’t been easy for us to sort as there is strong competition in his position within the first team. Now, this opportunity has come up for him to go to Rangers.
“He’s a Scottish lad and it’s a great chance for him to go home and play some first team football. It’s in his best interests to go and play up there.”
Middleton becomes the sixth new face to arrive at Ibrox this month after senior stars Sean Goss, Jamie Murphy, Jason Cummings, Russell Martin and Greg Docherty all signed for the Gers.
The 18-year-old never made a first-team appearance for Norwich but was an unused substitute in last season’s FA Cup third round replay against Southampton.
Middleton has represented Scotland at Under-19 and was most recentlyinvolved in their three matches in November in the UEFA European Championship Qualifiers against Luxembourg, Armenia and Czech Republic.
The boyhood Rangers fan was a regular for Norwich’s Under-23 side, scoring three times in 1 appearances in Premier League 2.
Middleton has worked with Gers boss Graeme Murty previously when Murty was responsible for Norwich’s Under-18’s prior to joining Rangers in August 2016.
