Lorenzo Amoruso: Celtic senior player is worth nearly 50% less than reported £8m valuation

Ex-Rangers captain Lorenzo Amoruso believes that Celtic centre-back Jozo Simunovic is worth nowhere near the £8million he has been reportedly valued at, and is worth nearer half that amount.
The Mirror has previously reported that clubs in the English Premier League had been named with an interest in the player, with the Hoops wanting to sell him off for a fee worth £8million.
The former Rangers captain has now seen that Serie A side Lazio have been quoted with an interest in the Bosnian international and the Italian has advised his countrymen not to overspend on the 23-year-old.
“I’ve seen Simunovic play in different games and I would say he is a player who certainly has good qualities,” Amoruso said, as quoted by the Sunday Post.
“At this moment in time, though, does he impress me as someone who would justify an £8million fee? No, he does not.
“If Celtic really want that amount, then I would leave Simunovic where he is.
“At the lower figure of £4.5million, which is what Lazio want to pay, I can see the advantage for them in bringing him in.”
Simunovic has had an up-and-down career since joining the Hoops from Dinamo Zagreb in September 2015.
The Hoops’ senior player’s first season was disrupted by injury, and in Brendan Rodgers’ first season it looked as if he was going to move to Torino
However, the move fell through at the last minute, and by the end of the season the unlikely centre-back partnership of Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata had lead the Hoops to their first domestic treble since 2001 and first unbeaten league season since the 1890s.
This season though the wheels look to have came off for the Bosnian. After a good start to the season – he was imperious in the 3-0 Champions League group stage win over Anderlecht – Simunovic’s form has nosedived.
He was particularly poor in the 4-0 loss to Hearts which saw the end of the Hoops’ 69 game unbeaten domestic record and hasn’t started a match since then, being replaced by Norwegian teenager Kristoffer Ajer in the first-team.
