Celtic may be forced to sell up to four first-team stars valued at £90million-plus in January to raise much-needed cash.
The Scottish giants did not sell any of their main players in the last window and spent £15million on transfer and loan fees to push for 10-in-a-row.
Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie, Olivier Ntcham and Kristoffer Ajer all enter the final 18 months of their contracts in January and at least one big-name sale is on the cards and potentially a few more.
A Celtic source has told Football Insider that major sales cannot be ruled out, especially after the £13m drop in turnover revealed in the recently-published accounts for 2019-20.
Talks with Edouard and Ajer over new deals have stalled after the nine-in-a-row winners successfully staved off interest in them last summer.
Celtic scared off interest in their prize asset Edouard by quoting a £40million valuation, while they wanted £20m for Ajer.
Christie is also rated close to the £20m bracket, while Ntcham was valued earlier this year by the Scottish champions Ntcham at around £12million, nearly three times what they paid for him in 2017.
Celtic know the values of all of the quartet are likely to drop by next summer, certainly if they do not sign contract extensions.
Christie and Ajer remain first choices in Neil Lennon’s struggling side while Edouard and Ntcham are not as untouchable as they once were.
Both started on the bench for last weekend’s 2-2 draw against Hibernian, although the prolific France Under-21 international striker did score in the late fightback.
