Frank Lampard: Coventry plan for big transfer window to prevent summer exit

Frank Lampard remains a managerial target for multiple clubs this summer after leading Coventry City to the Premier League, sources have told Football Insider.

The Sky Blues secured promotion from the Championship on 17 April following a 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers and now have their sights set on securing the title.

In the wake of securing promotion, plans are already being put in place to spend big as they aim to back the boss and strengthen his squad this summer.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Coventry believe a big window could also deter potential suitors for Lampard.

Crystal Palace have been strongly linked with the boss, while the likes of Bournemouth, Fulham and Chelsea have also been rumoured, but Coventry believe he will stay.

What is Coventry City’s new plan for Frank Lampard?

Football Insider revealed on 17 April that Coventry are not concerned about Lampard’s future and believe he will remain at the CBS Arena despite interest from elsewhere.

As a result, they are keen to enjoy a busy transfer window to bolster their squad and hopefully replicate the success of Sunderland and Leeds, who look set to stay up.

Winning the Championship title is the next objective in their sights as things stand, but efforts are being made to keep the manager and help him continue their progress.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “I would be very surprised if Lampard was to leave Coventry now. He’s lead them back to the Premier League.

“I believe Coventry will back Lampard in the transfer market this summer and give him funds to improve the squad.

“They will need to if they are to make an impact in the Premier League.

“Coventry are quite hopeful and quite relaxed that Lampard will want to continue with them in the Premier League and is still a big part of their project.

“They want to have Lampard leading them out in the Premier League next season and then consolidating them in the top division.”

Could Lampard be lured away from Coventry?

Crystal Palace are not the only club to have been linked with a move for Lampard, with the likes of Bournemouth and Fulham also without managers as things stand.

The Cherries look likely to appoint Marco Rose, likely ruling them out of the running, but Chelsea have also been tipped as surprise contenders if Liam Rosenior is sacked.

While it is highly unlikely, Football Insider revealed on 9 April that Coventry have plans in case Lampard leaves, with a number of alternatives on their radar.

John Eustace had previously been viewed as a key contender, and while he remains highly thought-of, their Premier League status could see them take more ambitious steps.

However, they are extremely reluctant to see Lampard leave and are confident he will stick around, with plans being made for next season under his guidance.
