French Ligue 1 outfit Nantes are eyeing a move for Tottenham outcast Georges-Kevin N’Koudou in the summer, according to a report.
The Mirror claim that the 21-year-old has emerged as a transfer target for Nantes, having failed to make an impact in the Premier League since arriving at White Hart Lane last summer.
N’Koudou began his senior career with the French club, and manager Sergio Conceicao is hoping to tempt the £11million flop into a return to Stade de la Beaujoire at the end of the season.
The winger has made a total of 12 appearances in all competitions for the club this season, but he has yet to start a Premier League game.
Meanwhile, he has not featured in the matchday squad for any of Tottenham’s last three league games, with his last Premier League outing a seven-minute cameo appearance against Manchester United on December 11.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is unlikely to sanction a move for N’Koudou, however, having previously insisted that his young star still needs time to settle into his new environment.
The France U21 international made 40 appearances in two full seasons with Nantes, before moving to French rivals Marseille in 2015. He netted 10 goals in his single season with the Ligue 1 giants, later sealing his move to England and north London.
Football Insider verdict
N’Koudou could really do with some more first-team football under his belt. Not just for his development as a player, but also to justify the £11million transfer fee paid in the summer by Pochettino. For a man that has featured only intermittently this season, most often as a substitute, £11million is a lot to pay. Take a look at Ademola Lookman and Everton, for example. Ronald Koeman paid a similar fee for him in the summer, and he is already excelling in the first-team at Goodison Park. Lookman did have previous English experience, unlike N’Koudou, but has reacted well to his first-team opportunities. Pochettino must do the same with N’Koudou or he runs the risk of his young star wanting to return to France. A loan move will be the only conceivable option for Pochettino and Tottenham, but they’ll need to keep him in London if they want him to learn quicker.
In other Tottenham transfer news, the end is nigh for this Tottenham senior player as the club reportedly close in on this £7million signing.
