Fulham in hot pursuit of deal to sign Union Berlin forward Andrej Ilic

Fulham and Coventry are among multiple clubs eyeing moves to sign Union Berlin forward Andrej Ilic this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Both Premier League clubs are looking to bolster their attacking options for next season, and the Serbia international figures highly on their wanted lists.

The 26-year-old has scored six goals and provided 12 assists in 34 appearances across all competitions, bringing him onto the radar of multiple clubs across Europe.

Ilic will enter the final year of his contract with Union Berlin next month, and the Bundesliga club are now bracing to receive offers for him this summer.

Fulham and newly-promoted Coventry are both keen to take advantage of their situation and believe a deal can be agreed as part of their ambitious transfer plans.

Why do Fulham and Coventry want to sign Andrej Ilic?

Football Insider exclusively revealed earlier this year that Burnley made a last-minute move for Ilic in the mid-season window, but their bid eventually fell short.

Union’s stance is expected to change in the summer, though, when his contract situation could force them to accept a significant offer for his services.

That has placed both Fulham and Coventry on alert, with both clubs aiming to strengthen in attacking areas in case they lose other star names.

Fulham are preparing to lose talisman Harry Wilson in the summer, and with Ilic capable of playing on the right as well as through the middle, he could replace his output.

Coventry, meanwhile, are keen to back Frank Lampard with new additions in the summer as they prepare to scrap for survival in the top flight next season.

Who else is interested in signing Ilic?

Fulham and Coventry are far from the only clubs interested in signing the Serbia international this summer, with a host of European giants placed on alert.

Should he be allowed to leave Union Berlin for a reasonable fee as expected, there will be no shortage of clubs prepared to make a move for him.

Football Insider exclusively revealed earlier this season that Celtic are keeping tabs on Ilic and had planned to make a move in the January transfer window.

Those plans were derailed by the complicated managerial situation at Parkhead which saw them decide against any permanent moves, but it could now be revisited.

Celtic have been keeping a close eye on the forward’s performances and feel he would be a significant upgrade on their current attacking options.
