Fulham are confident of agreeing a loan deal for Bordeaux striker Josh Maja before tonight’s transfer deadline, Football Insider can reveal.
The 22-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at the French club and has been given the green light to leave on a temporary basis.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that talks are at an advanced stage between the two clubs.
The proposed agreement would see the forward move to Craven Cottage on loan for the remainder of the season.
Maja has made 17 appearances for the Ligue 1 side this season and scored twice.
However, he has been an unused substitute for Bordeaux’s last three fixtures and he has only started once since Christmas.
Bordeaux signed Maja from Sunderland for a fee of just over £1.5million in January 2019 and he put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half year contract.
His 48 appearances since have yielded 11 goals and three assists.
Maja penned his first professional contract with Sunderland in the summer of 2016 and he made his debut in the EFL Cup later than year.
He scored 15 goals in 24 League One appearances in the first half of the 2018/19 campaign, and such form prompted Bordeaux to swoop in for his services.
The striker has also been linked with a move to West Ham in this transfer window with David Moyes in search of a replacement for Sebastien Haller.
But he is now set to join the Hammers’ London rivals Fulham, who are 18th in the Premier League.
