Alvaro Arbeloa has left Real Madrid and is now the clear favourite with several top bookmakers to become the new Fulham manager.

Marco Silva is set to leave Fulham when his contract expires after refusing to sign a new deal.

The Portuguese boss is expected to become the new Benfica manager after doing a stellar job at Craven Cottage over the last five years.

Shahid Khan and the Cottagers' board have been linked with appointing several candidates in recent weeks, but leading contender Kieran McKenna ruled himself out of the running on Wednesday.

New reports have claimed that Fulham's board have held talks with former Real Madrid boss Arbeloa, and he is now the bookies' favourite for the job.

Arbeloa left the Bernabeu earlier this week after a tough few months in charge following Xabi Alonso's sacking.

His appointment was always viewed as a temporary measure, and he could look for something more long-term in England now that he is set to be replaced by Jose Mourinho.

Ipswich boss McKenna was the clear favourite with the bookies to be Fulham's next manager before news emerged on Wednesday that he is set to take time out of management for the foreseeable future.

Ruben Amorim was initially installed as the new favourite to take charge at Craven Cottage, but Arbeloa is now odds-on with several top UK bookmakers to be the next Fulham boss.

The former Liverpool and West Ham defender started managing in Real Madrid's academy in 2020 and became the boss of their Castilla side last May.

He led the first team to a second-placed La Liga finish and the Champions League quarter-finals last term, with 18 wins, two draws and eight losses in his 28 games in charge.

Who are the other candidates to take charge of Fulham next?

Amorim is now second-favourite to succeed Silva at Fulham among numerous top UK bookmakers, at odds of 3/1.

Famalicao boss Hugo Oliviera has also been linked to Craven Cottage and is a top contender with the bookies at 5/1 odds, while Frank Lampard comes in at 8/1.

Sources have previously told Football Insider that Fulham admire Liam Rosenior despite his tough spell at Chelsea, and he is priced at odds of 12/1 to head back to West London.
