Aston Villa hesitation will hand Fulham advantage in Harry Wilson contract talks
Aston Villa may have missed their best chance to sign Fulham midfielder Harry Wilson.
It has been revealed that Wilson remains in contract talks with Fulham, with his future still yet to be decided, and with his current deal expiring at the end of the month.
Aston Villa are one of the leading contenders to sign Wilson, but Unai Emery's side have yet to agree a deal with the 29-year-old.
Europa League glory and Champions League qualification should have accelerated a move, but instead Wilson could still remain at Fulham even after the departure of manager Marco Silva.
Wilson has been a Fulham player since 2021, and it is clear that the midfielder has a strong relationship with the club, which he is clearly not willing to let go of easily.
Fulham have been holding talks with Wilson over a new deal since January, whilst the club rejected offers in the winter window to keep him in west London.
Are Aston Villa waiting on the future of Morgan Rogers?
If Wilson was to arrive at Villa Park, he could help fill the gap which Morgan Rogers could leave.
Rogers is a top target for Arsenal this summer, but Aston Villa will be holding out for a fee of over £80million.
Emery wants to keep Rogers at the club, and may therefore not be able to guarantee the game time which Wilson would expect.
Wilson started 32 of Fulham's 36 Premier League matches in the 2025-26 campaign, and his playing time could be jeopardised with a move away from Fulham.
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown also told Football Insider in May that Aston Villa were concerned about Wilson's dip in form at Fulham towards the end of the season.
Aston Villa keen on £69m rated winger
Aston Villa have been pursuing a move for winger Martin Baturina lately according to reports in Italy.
Baturina could be available to Aston Villa if they meet Como's valuation of £69m for the 23-year-old.
It signals Emery's intentions to strengthen the squad, but also that a move for Wilson may now not be a priority.
Baturina is younger than Wilson, and would have a greater re-sale value in the future if he was to make the move to Villa Park.
