Garry Monk sends crucial message to Leeds fans ahead of Wolves clash

By Matt Farr

Leeds manager Garry Monk has called for fans to flood Elland Road on Monday and help get the club over the line in the promotion race.

The Championship high-flyers host Wolves in two days time in a game that could make or break their promotion to the Premier League.

Chris Wood’s last-minute equaliser against Newcastle on Friday night earned Leeds a valuable point, but Monk’s side will be eyeing all three points in their next outing to retain their play-off hopes.

Ahead of the crucial clash with Wolves, Monk has issued a rallying cry to fans, urging them to get ‘Elland Road rocking’.

As quoted by the club’s official Twitter account on Friday, he said: “We need Elland Road rocking on Monday. We need you to pack it out and get us over the line, every point is crucial now.”

Leeds’ promotion bid has stuttered in recent weeks after such a strong first half of the campaign, having picked up just two wins from their last seven league games.

But the precious point against second-placed Newcastle moved Leeds three points clear of seventh-placed Fulham with four games remaining.

Fulham have cranked up the pressure in the promotion race with a late surge towards the play-offs, and with three wins from their last four games, are ready to pounce on any slip up from the Championship’s top six.

However, Monk is determined not to fall into the trap and see all his and Leeds’ hard work this season go to waste at the final moment.
