Gary Lineker delivers humorous Twitter verdict on Giroud scorpion strike for Arsenal
By Will Butcher
Gary Lineker believes Oliver Giroud’s scorpion-like goal in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace is the best goal of 2017 so far.
The Match of the Day host joined plenty of fans and pundits alike in taking to Twitter to give their reaction to the 30-year-old’s wonder goal.
Posting on his personal Twitter account, Lineker quipped that Giroud’s goal was the best of 2017, with only seven to choose from after Tottenham’s 4-1 win over Watford earlier on Sunday.

Giroud broke the deadlock with a wonderful acrobatic effort in the first half, after a break into the Crystal Palace half that saw Alexis Sanchez’s cross go behind Giroud.
However, the France international was confident enough to try a scorpion kick that flew past goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey into the back of the net via the crossbar.

The France international’s goal was his fifth Premier League strike of the season, as he continues to earn a place in Wenger’s side and push Alexis Sanchez out wide.
Two goals in two games for the target man will now be starting to convince manager Wenger that Giroud should be his first choice at Arsenal.
The win sees the Gunners move up to third in the Premier League table, leapfrogging north London rivals Tottenham as they look to claw in Liverpool and Chelsea.
