Sources: Aston Villa in advanced talks to land Gerrard and four other deals after multi-million fee agreed

Aston Villa are in advanced talks to appoint Steven Gerrard as their new manager – as well as four members of his Rangers backroom staff, Football Insider understands.

The Midlands giants have agreed to pay the Glasgow club £3million to sign Gerrard and his team.

A Villa source has told Football Insider that Gerrard is set to be joined at Villa Park by his highly-regarded coaching assistants Gary McAllister and Michael Beale as well as head of performance Jordan Milsom and technical coach Tom Culshaw.

Gerrard has been formulating his backroom team after making up his mind to leave Rangers after three-and-a-half years.

This site exclusively broke the news at 3pm on Tuesday (9 November) that the 41-year-old was ready to tell the Ibrox board that he wants to leave for Villa.

Negotiations progressed smoothly yesterday and there is now an expectation that the Liverpool icon could be announced as the new Villa manager in the next 24 hours.

Chief executive Christian Purslow has led the pursuit of Gerrard, who he knows from his days as Liverpool managing director, as he looks to bring in a marquee manager with the profile and prestige that he believes fits with Villa’s ambition.

This site first revealed on 8 April that Villa had a “strong interest” in luring Gerrard from Rangers.

Villa are currently 16th in the Premier League after five successive defeats, which forced the board into action.

Dean Smith was sacked last Sunday, 48 hours after the team’s Premier League defeat at Southampton.
