Gerrard gives Aston Villa stars ultimatum after Bodymoor Heath update - Hutton

Steven Gerrard will get rid of any players unhappy with the training ground changes at Aston Villa, according to Alan Hutton.

The former Villa defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 41-year-old has stamped his authority on the Midlands giants already.

As reported by the Telegraph (22nd November), Gerrard has removed sauces, pudding, fizzy drinks and hot chocolate from the training ground canteen.

The strict rules are said to have been well-received at Villa.

Hutton insisted Gerrard had sent a message to the squad with his shakeup and that any dissidents would be offloaded.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I had it with numerous managers over my career while playing.

“I think if you’re taking stuff away and they’re telling you why, the nutritionist is giving you better things to eat, that’s good.

“If you’re seeing a change in your body or your physique or you’ve been able to run more or cover more distance and you’re seeing yourself develop and improve, then you want to stick with it.

“If somebody is just taking something just to say: ‘Well you’re not getting that,’ then it’s annoying.

“But if you’re seeing improvement in yourself then, of course, change is a good thing. As long as it’s for the better. So he’s went and he’s stamped his authority.

“‘This is how I work, this is how I’m going to be moving forward. Get on board or get off.’ I mean it’s quite as simple as that.”

Gerrard kicked off his spell as Villa manager with a 2-0 win over Brighton.

The Villans’ face a trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.
