Gerrard has put Aston Villa stars on 'six-week' trial amid 'huge' source reveal - pundit
The Aston Villa squad have six weeks to impress Steven Gerrard or he will sell them in January, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer insisted Gerrard will be “ruthless” with his new squad and will not “settle for mediocrity”.
A Villa source has told Football Insider the club are preparing to back the new manager with “huge” funds in January and in next summer’s window.
There are around six weeks until the window opens and Gerrard has nine games in charge before then.
And Agbonlahor has claimed he will make decisions on his squad based on the period leading up to the window.
He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “You’ve got six weeks until January, he’s got the licence to look at some of these players and think ‘You know what, you can go’.

“He will have that ruthlessness about him because you need that as a top manager. You can’t be soft, you have to be ruthless.
“If he thinks some of these players aren’t good enough, he’ll get rid of them and bring in replacements who can help him with his job. He’s a winner, he wants to succeed. He’s not going to settle for mediocrity.
“When he speaks to all his players, he will tell them that ‘I want to achieve things here, I don’t want to be a mid-table team, I want to push into Europe’.
“It’s a six-week period for these players where they have to impress him. It’s the wrong time to play Villa.”
