Alan Hutton has urged Steven Gerrard to start Scott Wright for Rangers against Celtic on Sunday.
The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 23-year-old deserved to come in for Ianis Hagi and ahead of Kemar Roofe.
Wright scored on his first league start for Rangers against St Johnstone last week.
However, he was only used as a substitute in the Scottish Cup defeat to the Saints on Sunday evening.
Wright has played 10 times but made just two starts for the Light Blues since his move from Aberdeen.
Hutton suggested Gerrard would likely bring Roofe back into the starting XI at the expense of Hagi.
However, he urged the Gers boss to give Wright a chance after his “excellent” cameos.
“After the exit in the Scottish Cup, you’d want to see a massive performance,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if Roofe came in. Kent will play, Morelos will play, Roofe, I think that’s his usual go-to three.
“You know how much I like Scott Wright and I think he deserves an opportunity in a game like that, in my opinion, to go and show his worth. I think every time he’s come on or played he’s been excellent.
“I would like to see him start maybe on that right of the three. He’s got a lot of decisions to make, especially after what happened the other night. Will he try to change things up? So he’s got a headache but one he would want to have.
“You look at what still motivates Rangers, they can be break 100 points, they can be invincibles.
“There are all these little things that just put a cherry on top if you want. There’s still motivation so I’d be looking for a massive performance from the players.”
