Giroud reveals verdict on best French player in Premier League (not Pogba)
By Emma Sanders
Olivier Giroud has admitted Hugo Lloris is his favourite French player in the Premier League who is not currently playing alongside him at Arsenal.
In a Q&A session on Soccer AM’s Facebook page, the Arsenal forward admitted his Spurs rival was a “good friend” and he chose him ahead of Paul Pogba when asked which Frenchman was his favourite, excluding Arsenal teammates.
Giroud was also asked who his hero growing up was and which trophy he would rather win between the Premier League and the Champions League.
He responded, “Definitely the Premier League. Before it was the Champions League but when I understood what the Premier League means to English fans I realised I had to win that,” Giroud told Soccer AM.
“My football hero? Andriy Shevchenko.”

When asked who his favourite Frenchman was, he replied “That’s a good question. Hugo Lloris – he is a Spurs player but he is a good friend of mine.”
Giroud is one of a number of French stars who are currently competing in the Premier League alongside Pogba and Lloris.
League champion N’Golo Kante is a regular starter in Chelsea’s midfield and attacking duo Dimitri Payet and Anthony Martial have grabbed the limelight in the last two seasons.
Giroud plays alongside compatriot Laurent Koscielny for club and country regularly but it’s Lloris who was singled out by the in-form goal-scorer.
Giroud has already scored seven goals in 14 Premier League appearances this season and his side are still in the title race, though they trail by leaders Chelsea by eight points.
The Gunners currently sit in fourth place and they will be expected to pick up six points in their next two games before facing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge at the start of next month.
In other Arsenal news, Giroud has urged this senior figure to extend his contract.
