Alan Hutton has insisted Matt O'Riley will stay at Celtic next season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers right-back said that although O'Riley has fallen down the pecking order, he will want the chance to prove himself to Ange Postecoglou for the rest of the season and into next year.

The 22-year-old's current Parkhead contract runs until 2026 after he joined from MK Dons in January 2022.

Sources say that the midfielder would be "open to a move" away from Parkhead this summer.

The Denmark under-21 international has been an important member of Postecoglou's side this season but has found it difficult to break into the starting lineup recently due to the impressive form of Reo Hatate and Aaron Mooy.

O'Riley has made 43 appearances for the league leaders and has scored two goals and provided 12 assists in those outings.

When asked if O'Riley will want to stay at Celtic next season and prove himself to the manager, Hutton told Football Insider: "Absolutely.

"There is no doubting he has got the quality to play in there week in week out.

"He was first choice for a while and then he kind of dropped out a little bit. The competition is still very high.

"But there is potential to win a treble, Champions League football next season. Where is he aiming for? A Premier League team, a top ten side?

"I think he has still got a lot to prove and a lot to give for Celtic and I think he will want to continue that on to next season."
