Grant Hanley: This is why Newcastle are top of the Championship
By Danny Wright
Newcastle’s Grant Hanley has revealed that Newcastle’s strong dressing room morale is why they are leading the way in the Championship.
The 25-year-old admitted that the Magpies have had some rough spells this season, but said that his side have limited the amount of times that has happened – which is why they hold a one point lead over second placed Brighton.
Hanley arrived at St. James’ Park at the beginning of the season from Blackburn and believes that it makes a change to be fighting at the top of the table for the first time in his career.
“It’s nice to be up there. The atmosphere’s always good, and that’s credit to the lads,” Hanley said to the Shields Gazette. “Everybody’s pulling in the same direction.
“There are no egos in the dressing room. There’s no negativity there.

“There have been times in the season when it’s been a bit sticky for us, and the lads have stuck together and got through it. I think that’s important as well. “
The Scot, who has 26 caps for his country, has made 13 appearances in all competitions for Rafa Benitez this season. He completed 90 minutes in the league for the first time since August in last Saturday’s 1-0 win over Derby.
Hanley will now be hoping that the Tyneside club can continue to push towards an immediate return to the Premier League when they face Wolves on Saturday evening at Molineux before a tricky Tuesday night trip to Norwich.
Newcastle travel to second placed Brighton at the end of February in a huge game which could decide the fate of the Championship title.
