Balague: Liverpool pursuing La Liga attacker, release clause set at £41.9m (not Rodriguez)

By Amir Mir

Guillem Balague has claimed that Premier League side Liverpool have been following Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Willams.

Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert stated that the 22-year-old has a £41.9million buy-out clause in his contract and is “certainly” looking abroad should he make a move.

Versatile attacker Williams has only scored seven goals in all competitions this season and Balague has revealed how that could play a part in his valuation fee.

“He was followed by Liverpool and has a €50m buyout clause,” Balague told Sky Sports. “I’m not sure any team would be willing to pay that right now because he has not proved that valuation.

“He is in no rush but he is certainly looking abroad should he move.”

Over the course of the season, Williams has played 32 La Liga matches for his European chasing side.

He has scored four league goals in the Basque Country added with his four assists where he has been utilised up top and on the right wing by his manager.

Liverpool have also been linked with a stunning swoop for Real Madrid playmaker James Rodriguez.

Football Insider verdict:

Liverpool should firmly stay away from signing Williams, simply because of the fee that has been mentioned. Paying such a big price for an unknown quantity is a big risk for a club that cannot afford to take such risks. The Reds are searching for Champions League football, a Premier League title, but most importantly hoping they can secure top four finishes on a regular basis. To do that, they need to add experienced talent to their ranks and at this moment in time, Willams is not worth the punt. There is no doubt that Jurgen Klopp could pay a similar fee for a player that has done much more on the European stage.
