Hackett: Xhaka may be set Riley talks after Arsenal controversy
Granit Xhaka may be set for a meeting with Mike Riley and the FA after he was sent off for Arsenal in Saturday’s 5-0 loss to Manchester City.
That is according to the former head of the PGMOL Keith Hackett, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Xhaka received the 11th red card of his career.
The midfielder was sent off at the Etihad for a lung on Joao Cancelo after 34 minutes with the Gunners 2-0 down.
Martin Atkinson did not hesitate to give Xhaka his marching orders and Hackett has insisted he can have no complaints.
He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Oh, it’s a red.
“I seriously think what Arsenal should do is call for Mike Riley and the referee to visit them. I think they should have a discussion with the player, promoted, if need be, by the Football Association.

“You want to make certain that the player understands the laws of the game. If you launch yourself off the floor it’s a red card offence.
“By taking that action, are you influencing Arsenal and the competition? I think not. I think there’s a duty of care from Arsenal to the player to ensure how they can avoid a player missing so many games. How can they bring him to account?
“They make take the view and say ‘Ok, we’ll bring a sports psychologist in and try and take some actions to help the process of the player to stop reaching boiling point and seeing red’.
“I did it in the past with Marouane Fellaini and David Moyes at Everton with a series of yellow cards he received. I went to see them and discuss with them how to avoid yellow cards.
