Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann believes that Manchester United will have the edge over the Reds in Sunday afternoon’s Premier League clash.
The two famous rivals are set to meet for the second time this season with an encounter at Old Trafford scheduled.
The last time they both met a 0-0 draw was played out at Anfield and Liverpool will this time be without star forward Sadio Mane due to the AFCON.
The lack of Mane in the Reds team has led Hamann to believe that United are going into the clash in the strongest position.
“I think Manchester United found a bit of form in recent weeks,” told Hamann to Sky Sports, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo. “They seem to be a bit more settled and the camp a lot more happy than it was at the start of the season.
“And in Mane, one of the most influential forward players for Liverpool , will be missing, so I think Manchester United – who nullified Liverpool very well when they played at Anfield – may have the edge on Sunday.”
Mane made the switch to Anfield from Premier League rivals Southampton in the summer in a £34million transfer.
He has been an instant hit on Merseyside, playing in 21 encounters with a return of nine goals and seven assists.
However, he did play the full 90 minutes in the previous clash against United in October and was unable to penetrate an impressive defence alongside his teammates.
Both clubs have League Cup semi-final ties in the week, but they will also one eye on their derby match on Sunday.
It will be a clash that the two sides need to win this time with Liverpool five points behind league leaders Chelsea, while Manchester United sit three points behind fourth place.
In other Liverpool news, the Reds have made a decision on this attacker.
