Gabriel Agbonlahor has slammed the West Brom owners after Sam Allardyce revealed he will have money to spend in January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley, the legendary former Aston Villa striker accused the Baggies' owners of being "petty" in the summer.

Allardyce told the press after his appointment last week that there will be "some money" to spend in January and he is "likely" to make additions.

Under Slaven Bilic in the summer the Baggies added Cedric Kipre, David Button, Branislav Ivanovic, Conor Gallagher and Karlan Grant to the squad for less than £20million combined.

Meanwhile, loanees Matheus Pereira, Grady Diangana and Callum Robinson all joined permanently and Filip Krovinović signed another season-long loan deal.

Asked by Football Insider why Allardyce may be backed in January but Bilic was not, Agbonlahor said: “What people don’t understand is a lot of club owners is they haven’t really got a clue about football.

“They can be like ‘I don’t really like him so I’m not going to give him a lot of money’, it can be very petty in football clubs.

“They didn’t give him much money to spend, they sold Hegazi after the transfer window closed. All these things didn’t make sense. It’s things you do when you don’t really like a manager.

"So I think Bilic was always going to be sacked eventually. It wouldn’t surprise me if they did give Allardyce money which would be shocking.”

West Brom are now five points adrift of safety after their 3-0 defeat to Midlands rivals Aston Villa on Sunday.

Next up for the Baggies is a trip to Premier League champions Liverpool next Sunday.
