Kevin Phillips has claimed Tyrese Campbell is not ready to replace Tottenham target Josh King at Bournemouth yet.
The former Stoke City coach, who has worked with Campbell, told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs that the 20-year-old is not ready for the Premier League.
Sky Sports revealed that four of the Premier League’s so-called “top-six” are interested in signing the Josh King who has scored four goals and provided two assists in 20 appearances this season.
The Norway international enters the final year of his contract in and the club may sell their striker this summer rather than run the risk of losing him on a free in July 2021.
Football Insider revealed that Stoke City’s Tyrese Campbell is being lined up to replace King, 28, at the Vitality Stadium were he to leave this summer.
Phillips, who was first team coach at the Potters under Gary Rowett in 2018, claims Campbell has a big future in the game.
“Having worked with Tyrese, I saw a lot of potential in him but also a lot of frustration,” he told Football Insider.
“He had issues with his fitness and he was not at the levels we wanted him at.
“He is one of those players who’ll get better and better as times goes on.
“But I do not think he is ready for the Premier League yet. I think he needs another year in the Championship and he is still only a young kid.”
Campbell has scored 11 goals in 30 appearances this season for a struggling Stoke side.
The young striker is contracted at the bet365 Stadium until July 2024 after he signed a contract extension in January.
