'He causes mayhem' - Exclusive: Kevin Phillips in awe of West Ham man
Kevin Phillips has heaped praise on Michail Antonio for his recent performances in a West Ham shirt.
The former Sunderland and Southampton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed fans will want the 29-year-old to remain in the side because of the “work rate and never-say-die attitude” he possesses.
Antonio started only his 11th game this season as the Hammers lost 1-0 to London rivals Arsenal at the Emirates.
The versatile forward was a constant threat to Mikel Arteta’s defence along with Jarrod Bowen but David Moyes’ side was made to rue missed chances after substitute Alexander Lacazette scored late on.
When asked for his assessment of the former Nottingham Forest player’s recent form, Phillips told Football Insider: “He gives you that aggression, that work rate and a never-say-die attitude. What he lacks sometimes in quality he makes up for in endeavour, work-rate, heart, spirit… Every word you can associate with hard work, he has got it. He travels with the ball well and he can make up so much ground so quickly so he is good on the counter-attack.
“West Ham supporters would rather have him in the side, especially when you go through a tough time.

“He will chip in with the odd goal. He causes mayhem and that is what you want at times like this. You want players to run through brick walls for you and he does that.
“He gets a good reception whenever he comes on because he gives everything.”
Antonio has scored 30 goals in 145 appearances in East-London playing as a striker, winger and, full-back at times.
The Irons remain in 16th place in the Premier League as Bournemouth and Watford also suffered defeats this weekend.
