Tammy Abraham has been the outstanding player in the Championship this season, according to Noel Whelan.
The Football Insider pundit exclusively revealed why the on-loan Aston Villa striker deserves to be the English second tier’s player of the year.
Abraham has scored 25 Championship goals this season to lead the Midlands giants into a play-off spot, with his haul second in the division only to Norwich City’s Teemu Pukki.
Former Leeds United and Coventry City striker Whelan has been blown away by the impact Abraham, 21, has made after joining on loan from Premier League giants Chelsea.
“He’s my player of the year,” Whelan told Football Insider. “I know Pukki has had a great season but Abraham is the best [striker] in the league and a complete centre-forward.
“He is a young boy who has got everything you want – pace, power, can turn, great in the air, holds the ball up. He has not just scored goals when Villa have been winning, he was scoring when they were struggling as well.
“He has been exceptional and carried Villa at times, and there’s no doubt he will achieve big things in the game.”
Abraham is set to return to parent club Chelsea at the end of the season.
He has spent the last three campaigns on loan at Villa, Swansea City in the Premier League and Bristol City in the Championship.
