Noel Whelan has tipped Marcelo Bielsa to hand Eddie Nketiah his first Leeds United start in the Championship after his latest goalscoring display.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-United striker claimed the on-loan Arsenal striker is starting to make an almost irrefutable case to be in the starting XI.
Nketiah has yet to begin a league match for Leeds since joining at the end of the summer window as he has had to play second fiddle to Patrick Bamford.
But Nketiah has already scored three times for the promotion hopefuls and further enhanced his reputation with a double for England Under-21s in their 3-2 win over Turkey during the weekend.
“There’s no doubt Nketiah has given Marcelo Bielsa something to think about,” Whelan told Football Insider. “He is firing for Leeds and firing for England Under-21s.
“He looks brilliant when you watch him play. Sharp, mobile, hungry. And he knows how to finish. Patrick has done very little wrong after starting the season well.
“Nketiah will have planted seed in Bielsa’s mind with his goals for England. It’s definitely increased his chances of starting at the weekend against Barnsley.
“It looks like one or the other up front at the moment, and Bielsa’s head will be turned by Nketiah. When you have a striker so full of confidence you have got to think about playing him.”
Nketiah has started both of Leeds’ League Cup matches but his three appearances in the Championship have come as a substitute.
Bamford has spearheaded the attack in each of United’s six league matches this season, scoring four goals.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that the club knocked back attacker offer from Champions League giants during summer window.
