'Does my head in' - Ian Taylor delivers verdict on Aston Villa loss v Middlesbrough
By Danny Wright
Ian Taylor had admitted that he is losing patience with Aston Villa’s continual disappointment in the League Cup after Tuesday night’s loss to Middlesbrough.
Patrick Bamford scored on either side of a Tommy Elphick red card in the second-half to knock Steve Bruce’s men out of the third round of the Carabao Cup as Boro eased to a 2-0 victory.
Former Villa Park midfielder Taylor, 49, made his anger clear on his personal Twitter account after the game after his old club failed to go beyond that stage of the competition for the fourth time in five years.
“Got to say, this competition does my head in now,” he said, following my an angry face emoji.

Taylor was part of the squad that lifted the League Cup trophy in 1996 when a Villa side managed by Brian Little thrashed Leeds United 3-0 in the final at the old Wembley Stadium.
The ex-midfielder was on the scoresheet in that win, as well as Savo Milosevic and Dwight Yorke.
Bruce and his men will be looking to bounce back to winning ways on Saturday evening when they welcome Nottingham Forest to the West Midlands.
The Villains got only their second league win of the season last weekend when they breezed past Barnsley at Oakwell, but there’s no doubt that Mark Warburton’s side will pose a much tougher challenge.
In other Aston Villa news, Tony Xia has responded to rumours that he is looking to sell the club.
