Danny Mills expects Ryan Sessegnon to join Tottenham and it will be the “perfect move” for the rising star of English football.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England international made the big claim that he’s convinced the Fulham 18-year-old would be heading to the ideal club at the key stage of his career if he switches to the north Londoners this summer.
It has been widely reported in recent days that Spurs are closing in on the signing of Sessegnon in the wake of the west Londoners’ relegation from the Premier League.
“He will go to Spurs and he will learn from Mauricio Pochettino,” Mills told Football Insider. “Sessegnon will probably play half the games next season and be a squad player. Would he get in ahead of Son Heung-Min or Lucas Moura? Certainly not at the moment.
“But Tottenham would be a good stage for him and it’ll be the perfect move. He hasn’t been a regular starter for Fulham, so can’t expect to be starting at Tottenham on a regular basis.
“It would be better than going to Chelsea, where he probably wouldn’t get a game at all. Tottenham are a good side who have a record of developing players under Pochettino.
“I see him as an attacking player rather than a left-back, as he has a lot to learn defensively. He looked great in the Championship but the Premier League is a totally different level.”
Sessegnon was named Championship player of the year for his exploits in 2017-18 as he spearheaded Fulham’s promotion campaign.
He made 38 appearances this season, scoring two goals and supplying six assists, and was mainly used on the left or right or the midfield, although he did play left-back on seven occasions.
