Frank McAvennie has claimed that he would love to see Aaron Hickey sign for Celtic this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Jason Jones, the former Parkhead hitman argued that the young Hearts left-back could provide vital competition to Greg Taylor in Glasgow.
A recent report from Sky Sports Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio suggested that the Hoops are waiting on a decision from the 18-year-old after making him a “great offer”.
Bayern Munich and Bologna are also said to be keen on the starlet.
But McAvennie is hopeful that the Bhoys can win the race to secure his services in the coming weeks.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “Listen, he is what he is – he’s a talent.
“He got put into that Hearts team quite early, and he stuck out like a sore thumb in some of their performances.
“Yeah, I would love to see him there because if Boli Bolingoli’s gone or not getting a game then they need somebody to push Taylor. Sometimes players can get a bit relaxed and you need somebody to push you.
“If this guy comes in he would certainly push Taylor all the way for that spot, that’s for sure.”
Hickey spent a brief spell in Celtic’s youth system in 2017, but returned to boyhood side Hearts after just a year in Glasgow.
Since then, he has gone on to make 34 first team appearances for the club, scoring once and assisting one more.
