'He's exciting...Brilliant' - Exclusive: Darren Bent wowed by potential Villa reunion

Darren Bent has been left drooling over the prospect of Aston Villa signing Brentford attacker Said Benrahma this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Villans’ forward believes the Bees’ star would be a “great signing” for Dean Smith’s men.

The Birmingham Mail report that the Villans could reignite their interest in the 24-year-old this summer after being heavily linked with a move last year.

The former OGC Nice star was signed by current Villa boss Smith back in 2018 and missed just one game across all competitions before the manager’s move to Villa.

Bent believes securing a reunion would be a great bit of business for the Premier League outfit, insisting they could still chase a move if they are relegated this season.

Bent told Football Insider: “He’s a very good player, he’s shown us all what a good player he is and I think he would be a great signing.

“He kind of reminds me of El Ghazi and Trezeguet, those guys there, and for me I think he’d be a great, great signing, a really good signing.

“He’s exciting, he’s been brilliant for Brentford this season. Him, Ollie Watkins and Mbeueno have all been very, very good. For Aston Villa, it depends. If they were to go down, they still carry a lot of weight in the Championship, even if they do go down they’re still a big club, massive. I think it would be a great signing whatever division they’re in.”

Benrahma has played in all but three of Brentford’s Championship games this season, with 10 goals and eight assists under his belt.

With the season currently suspended, the Bees sit fourth in the table, 10 points off the automatic promotion spots and five ahead of seventh-placed Bristol City.

In other Aston Villa news, it can be REVEALED the club have agreed terms with a first-team forward.
