Noel Whelan is convinced Izzy Brown won’t play for Leeds United again after he was dropped from the squad for Sunday’s defeat to Ipswich Town.
The on-loan Chelsea star had been an unused substitute for the explosive 1-1 draw against Aston Villa the previous weekend following seven consecutive games on the sidelines.
But Brown, 22, was once again frozen out for the 3-2 defeat to Ipswich Town at Portman Road as Marcelo Bielsa filled his bench with five members of the club’s successful Under-23s side.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, ex-Leeds striker Whelan explained why he does not expect to see the former England Under-21 international in a United shirt again.
“He’s surely played his last game for Leeds,” Whelan said. “It tells you everything that Marcelo Bielsa has left him out despite injuries to Patrick Bamford and Tyler Roberts.
“It must be due to what the manager is seeing on the training ground – clearly, Brown hasn’t done enough to show Bielsa why he should be in the side.
“I’d be really surprised if he was to be involved in the play-offs. Bielsa would rather rely on the kids.”
Brown has had just nine minutes of first-team action for Leeds despite being fit and available since January, when he had recovered from a cruciate ligament injury that sidelined him for a year.
The attacking midfielder had been a success in previous loan spells in the Championship with Rotherham United and Huddersfield, but will return to Chelsea at the end of the season following what has been a wretched time at Elland Road.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that Burnley have set their sights on a Whites ace as contract talks are set to begin.
