Pundit delivers Danny Rose verdict

Danny Mills has urged Tottenham Hotspur to pay up the contract of unwanted full-back Danny Rose.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former England and Manchester City full-back said the club needs to get rid of his negative influence.

This site revealed earlier this week that Spurs are planning talks about offering the full-back a pay-off to leave the club.

Rose has been deemed surplus to requirements in north London after he was not given a squad number and excluded from both of their Premier League and Europa League squads.

The England international has entered the final year of his Spurs contract and Mills believes it is unlikely he’ll play for the club again.

He told Football Insider“Never say never in football but it’s highly unlikely. I really don’t see that happening.

“I think his time is up I would say at Tottenham, it doesn’t look like there’s anywhere else for him to go in effect.

“It’s a shame but it does happen from time to time.

“If you’re not involved in the Premier League squad and you’ve not got long left to run on your deal then what is the point in keeping that player there?

“You can’t use him, it just becomes a pain as much as anything else.

“There has to come a point where you have to bite the bullet, do a deal, and move them on.

“Even if you have to give them all their money just do it the player is just going to sit there anyway and take it. You’ll be better off not having that negative influence around the place.”

Rose last played for Spurs in January and spent the second half of last season on loan at Newcastle United.

He featured in all but three of Newcastle’s games he was available for.
