'Honestly...Unbelievable' - Exclusive: Ex-Spur rips into one Tottenham player

Alan Hutton has blasted Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez for “trying to be too clever” in Sunday’s 3-3 draw with West Ham.

The former Spurs and Scotland full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, claims the Lilywhites dropped points due to a “crazy eight minutes” in north London.

Spurs led 3-0 before Fabian Balbuena’s 82nd-minute goal sparked a comeback completed by Manuel Lanzini’s sensational strike four minutes into injury time.

Sanchez headed into his own net from Vladamir Coufal’s drilled cross for West Ham’s second.

Hutton admits he thought Tottenham were going to blow the Irons away after the first 16 minutes but insists the likes of the Colombia international allowed David Moyes’ men back into the game.

Hutton told Football Insider: “Well I was watching it and I was thinking: ‘Here we go, this is going to be about 6-0,’ honestly. They were absolutely flying at the start, it was unbelievable.

“Sometimes I think you go in 3-0, you think the game is done, you take your foot off the gas a little bit and then they started to grow into the game. It was a crazy eight minutes or whatever it was. I don’t think you can ever get over that, it’s just something that occasionally happens in football.

“When they score one and you start to sit back, they’re confidence starts to grow. Then there’s an own goal, a header from Sanchez – look, just put it out from where it came from.

“I think he’s tried to be too clever and he’s ended up putting it into his own net and at 3-2 the nerves start to come in, it’s normal. Before you know it you’re in your 18-yard box trying to defend. What West Ham did was just putting balls in the box, putting Tottenham under pressure.

“It’s about closing out games, getting over the line, don’t let teams get back into it or give them any sort of hope or belief. That’s what they did. I put it down to a crazy eight minutes. Mourinho will be disappointed.”
