Alan Hutton insisted Gary Penrice has big boots to fill as chief scout at Celtic given the “brilliant” recruitment over the past few years.

The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, suggested the role will be of particular importance next season with key players likely to leave or return to their parent clubs.

As revealed by Football Insider, the Hoops are ready to appoint the ex-Everton and Stoke City talent spotter at Parkhead as part of an overhaul of their recruitment set up.

Last summer, former Head of Recruitment Lee Congerton left the club to take up a similar role at Premier League side Leicester City.

Nick Hammond is keen to bring the former Watford and Aston Villa striker to Parkhead on a short-term deal.

When asked by Football Insider if Penrice faced a difficult task given what has gone before him, Hutton said: “There is pressure. Every year they are playing in Europe and there is a massive demand from within the club for success.

“It is a huge job and if you look at Celtic’s recruitment over the last few years it has been brilliant. It is a tough job to take and there will be big pressure.

“To step into that job will not be an easy task but he has got a lot of experience so I am sure he will know who he wants and he will be looking at targets. He will have a good idea but there is pressure definitely.”

Mohamed Elyounoussi, Fraser Forster, Daniel Arzani and Moritz Bauer are all currently on loan with the Bhoys.

Whilst it appears increasingly unlikely Neil Lennon will be able to keep hold of his top scorer Odsonne Edouard this summer.
