Darren Bent has insisted West Brom will miss “scary” centre-back Craig Dawson after his £6million move to Watford.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former England international explained how the defender, 29, will be a “huge loss” given his aerial prowess and ability to play across the back line.
Dawson ended his association with West Brom at the start of this month, nine years after signing from Rochdale for just £600,000.
“He will be a huge loss,” Bent told Football Insider. “I mean I’ve tried to mark that guy at set plays and it’s impossible, honestly it’s impossible.
“I’ve never seen someone who can jump so high like him. Scary, scary in the air but he’s someone that can play right back, centre-half and that’s a good signing for Watford, I believe.
“I don’t quite know where he’ll play there but as far as someone who can play all across the back he’s brilliant. A really professional good player but in the air it’s scary, I’ve never seen anything like it.
“Trying to hold him, if he gets a running jump on anybody he will out jump anybody, and he’s that good in the air. For me, it’s a really, really good signing for Watford, a big loss to West Brom but at the end of the day you’re talking Championship versus the Premier League and he wants to better his career and also on a financial perspective will get more money playing in the Premier League.”
The defender made 225 appearances for the Baggies, scoring an impressive 15 goals, but he has now followed goalkeeper Ben Foster to Vicarage Road.
Albion were willing to sell Dawson this summer because he only had one year left on his contract.
In other West Brom news, it can be REVEALED that the Baggies are keen to blow Leeds United away to sign £2.5million-valued star.
