Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho’s agent has agreed for his client to sign a five year contract with Barcelona that would see the midfielder earn £10million a year, according to a report.
Sport,a Catalan newspaper, report that the midfielder’s agent met Barcelona officials as he aimed to secure a move for his client.
The same report states that the agent put an agreement on the table from the Liverpool owners, stating that the Reds are willing to sell Coutinho for £133million.
Sport claims this is a key detail as no price had been agreed between the two clubs before.
Barcelona responded, according to the report, by approving the transfer fee as long as they can pay in installments, something which Liverpool would accept.
Coutinho has made 17 appearances across all competitions for the Reds this season, scoring 10 goals and registering eight assists.
Football Insider Verdict
It’s hard to know what is going on with Coutinho at the moment, as Liverpool look like experiencing another window uncertain whether the midfielder will stay. This report suggest the deal is all but done, which is a sharp contrast to respected journalist Guillem Balague revealing on Monday that he thought Barcelona wouldn’t come in for the midfielder again. The only thing certain about this transfer saga is that Liverpool need to resolve it as quickly as possible, one way or another. Coutinho was affected during the summer by the speculation, and while he has impressively rebounded, the Reds won’t want him under-performing throughout January if he stays.
